In among the fallen leaves, it blends right in. It was a rock very much like this one where my daughter and I pulled up roots and got such a bad case. If you're clearing around rocks, look for those leaves of three first, and wear gloves even when you only see roots.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/poison-ivy-leaves-among-rocks.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Young poison ivy among the rocks</image:title><image:caption>Here is poison ivy just getting started, coming up among the rocks and twigs here at Living Springs Log House. Look closely and you can see the leaves of three, with the middle leaflet on a longer little stem. Young leaves like these are tender and shiny, and they're easy to miss, or to mistake for something harmless. This is exactly the kind of small plant that's worth learning to spot.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-21T22:36:37+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/08/02/we-did-our-homework-is-anyone-already-uniting-animal-and-earth-groups/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-21T19:19:39+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/aea/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-21T19:19:19+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>weekly</changefreq><priority>0.6</priority></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/20/the-healing-and-edible-plants-of-living-springs/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-21T17:23:43+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/09/17/an-adjacent-property-is-for-sale/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/image.png</image:loc><image:title>image</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-21T17:23:07+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/02/vegan-co-living-handbook/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/cooking-together-in-the-vegan-co-living-home.png</image:loc><image:title>Cooking together in the vegan co-living home</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-21T17:19:48+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/02/from-dream-to-sanctuary-creating-a-farm-animal-sanctuary-at-living-springs-log-house/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-21T17:18:42+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/02/one-property-six-ways-to-belong-living-springs-log-house/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/vegan-village-option-2-aerial-view.png</image:loc><image:title>Vegan Village - Bright orange flowers fill the bed, a silvery sage plant grows right out of an old tree stump, and herbs and flowers are tucked between the stones, with wood-chip mulch keeping the soil cool and moist. Beyond the old fence, the pasture rolls away toward the trees. As the years went by, the garden grew wilder. This year I got carried away growing beans, the morning glories went wild, and there was little time left for tidying. But this photo shows the upper garden's real potential: with a little care, it can look like this again.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/living-springs-2019-09-04.jpg</image:loc><image:title>The side garden near the propane tank</image:title><image:caption>The side garden near the propane tank at its prime, with gorgeous comfrey filling the front of the bed and herbs and wild plants spilling down the rocky slope behind it. In later years the Jerusalem artichokes took over this bed. I let them grow because they’re a survival food, but they really belong somewhere in the lower gardens. With a little care, this bed can look like this again.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/swallows-over-the-meadow.png</image:loc><image:title>Swallows over the This is where the upper garden began. Friends gathered on the slope in front of the log house to start reclaiming the Bermuda grass lawn. We laid cardboard right over the grass to smother it, then piled logs and branches on top, the beginning of a hugelkultur bed. As the wood slowly rots, it holds water like a sponge and feeds the soil for years. Everything growing in the upper garden today started with days like this one. The lower garden came much later.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:01:06+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/16/from-rock-pile-to-rock-garden-reclaiming-a-boulder-cascade-with-permaculture/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/snakebite-book-marjory-wildcraft.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Snakebite! by Marjory Wildcraft</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/side-rock-garden-peak.jpg</image:loc><image:title>The side rock garden at its peak</image:title><image:caption>The side rock garden at its peak. But you can see the potential here: with a little love and care, it can look like this again.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/mini-boulder-cascade.jpg</image:loc><image:title>The mini boulder cascade beside the house</image:title><image:caption>The mini boulder cascade beside the house. The house needed all these rocks for retaining walls, and I love planting things in the nooks and crannies and watching them thrive. Here comfrey is in full bloom, its little bell-shaped flowers nodding over the stones, with white daisies and leafy green plants filling the cracks all around. This is what a reclaimed rock pile can become.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boulder-cascade-before.jpg</image:loc><image:title>The boulder cascade, before</image:title><image:caption>Before: the boulder cascade when I first moved in. Not much was growing at all, just a few patches of green scattered through a wide tumble of bare stone below the log house. I transformed it little by little, and there’s lots of potential now, but it still needs more work.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boulder-cascade.jpg</image:loc><image:title>The boulder cascade</image:title><image:caption>The boulder cascade below the log house stairs, with comfrey growing happily in the cracks between the rocks. I planted a lot of comfrey here, and it has thrived. Massive stones like these hold the level ground the house sits on, and every crevice between them is a potential garden pocket.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:01:01+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/12/the-orchard-the-town-grew-up-around/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/three-generations-in-the-family-orchard.png</image:loc><image:title>Three generations in the family orchard</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:01:01+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2018/03/02/permaculture-zone-map/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:57+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2024/01/09/medicinal-plants-come-up-every-year/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/signal-2024-01-15-103025_002.jpeg</image:loc><image:title>signal-2024-01-15-103025_002</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:52+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/08/03/the-swallows-of-living-springs-log-house-a-sign-of-thriving-land/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:46+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/18/a-vision-fulfilled-how-living-springs-log-house-became-the-heart-of-a-compassionate-world/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/a-vision-fulfilled-living-springs-log-house-at-the-heart-of-a-connected-world.png</image:loc><image:title>A Vision Fulfilled: Living Springs Log House at the Heart of a Connected World</image:title><image:caption>An illustration of the vision, not a photograph. The Living Springs Log House sits at the center, with its gardens, the cave spring, the metal building, the swallows, and rescued animals grazing in peace. From the little table on the deck, where the first think tank gathers, circles of light ripple outward across the whole earth, reaching vegan co-living homes of every size, from city apartments to village houses. Each home has its own small think tank around its own table, and golden threads tie every one of them to each other, so even the smallest group of two or three is part of the super think tank. No vegan left behind, no vegan alone.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:32+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/10/14/caring-for-a-steep-hillside-behind-your-house/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:30+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/08/19/1082/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-20T23:00:23+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/2026/08/23/multigenerational-living-why-more-families-are-choosing-togetherness-and-how-the-living-springs-log-house-makes-room-for-both-closeness-and-privacy/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://livingspringsloghouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/multigenerational-family-walking-a-meadow-path.png</image:loc><image:title>Multigenerational
